Ansonia's season ends with a 26-19 loss to Bloomfield

Ansonia's season ended Sunday as they fell to Bloomfield 26-19 on a muddy Jarvis Stadium field. The lost also snapped Ansonia's home 53 game win streak.

In the end, the boys in Blue almost pulled out a stunner, as they scored on a pass to Jalen Johnson to cut the defecit to 7, then Cafaro recovered the ensuing onside kick.

Next, Shykeem Harmon (26-153) took the hand off at midfield, then broke a long run; however he was stripped of the ball from behind at the Bloomfield 5 yard line, and Bloomfield recovered, ending their comeback bid.

Ansonia 42, Plainfield 0

In their Class S Quarter Final game, the Ansonia Chargers shut out the Plainfield Panthers 42-0 at Jarvis Stadium.

Led by Sophomore quarterback Sheldon Schuler (7-10-249 4TD passes),
and Soph. wideout Jalen Johnson (5-207, 3 TD catches) the Chargers took control of the game.

Shykeem Harmon and Jy'Mere Jones scored rushing TD's while Garrett Cafaro also caught a touchdown pass.

The Charger's next game will be a home game in the Class S Semi-Finals against the Bloomfield Warhawks on Sunday, December 2nd at 12:30 PM.

Ansonia 34, Naugatuck 22

The Chargers completed their regular season 10-0 by besting the previously undefeated Naugatuck Greyhounds 34-22 on Thanksgiving morning!

Led by Jr, running back Shykeem Harmon (36 carries for 305 yards and three TD's) and Jr. Tyler Cararo (2 TD catches), the Chargers were able to pull out the win.

Tied at 22 in the 4th quarter, QB Sheldon Schuler hit Tyler Cafaro with an 8 yard TD pass to put the Chargers in front. On the next series, Shykeem Harmon put the game away with a 41 yard TD run!

With the win, the Chargers clinched the #1 Seed in the Class S playoffs.

Ansonia Bests Seymour 35-0 on Senior Night!

The Ansonia Chargers improved to 9-0 on the season, and also (unofficially) clinched a spot in the Class S State Playoffs by beating the Seymour Wildcats 35-0 on Senior Night,

Running back Shykeem Harmon led the way for Ansonia, rushing for 200 yards on 23 carries, including touchdown runs of 49 & 42 yards.

The defense turned in their 3rd shutout in the past 4 weeks, and also got in on the scoring when Tyler Cafaro recovered a Seymour fumble in he end zone.

Jalen Johnson scored on a 10 yard pass from Sheldon Schuler, and Jy'Mere Johnson scored on a 44 run of his own.

Ansonia beats Woodland in battle of unbeatens

The Ansonia Chargers remained unbeaten by taking care of previously unbeaten Woodland 36-20 Friday night at Woodland.

It was far from easy however, as Woodland jumped out to an early 14 point, lead scoring on their first two possessions.

But the Chargers battled back, scoring on a Sheldon Schuler 13 yard pass to Garrett Cafaro, and then a 60 yard punt return by Shykeem Harmon.
Harmons' 2 pt run and a good extra point by Jalen Johnson put the Chargers ahead to stay 15-14.

Ansonia 38, Derby 0

The Chargers earned their first shutout of the season by beating their rival Derby 38-0 Friday in Oxford.

Led by Jr. tailback (18-253-4TDs) and and QB Sheldon Schuler (2-19-1TD), the Chargers started out quickly. After holding the Raiders to a 3 & out to start the game, Harmon scored the first of hos 4 TD's on the day on Ansonia's first offensive play- a 43 yard run.

Sophomore Jalen Johnson had a perfect night kicking the ball going 5-5 on extra points, then adding a 28 yard field goal to close out the scoring,

Ansonia moves to 5-0 with win over Watertown

The Ansonia Chargers improved to 5-0 on the season, beating the Watertown Indians 49-7 Thursday at Jarvis Stadium.

Junior running back Shykeem Harmon scored 3 touchdowns, including the first score of the game on an 82 yard run. He also scored on runs of 29 yards, and 1 yard.

Garrett Cafaro scored on a 44 yard pass from his brother Tyler Cafaro, then Tyler also scored on a 30 yard run himself. Chicago Rivers rounded out the scoring for the Chargers with 3 yard TD run.

Ansonia moves to 3-0 with 45-9 over Oxford

The Ansonia Chargers improved to 3-0 on the season by dropping the Oxford Wolverines 45-9 Thursday night at Oxford High School.

Sophomore Quarterback Sheldon Schuler threw 3 Touchdown Passes, the first 2 to Noah Wagnblas (12 & 40 Yards), and the third one to Garrett Cafaro (36 yards).

John Picheco opened the scoring by scoring on a 48 yard run; while Shykeem Harmon scored on a 40 yard run.

Tyler Cafaro (12 yard run), and Javel Parker (2 yard run) rounded out the scoring for the Chargers.

The next game is scheduled for Friday, September 28 vs. St. Paul at Jarvis Stadium!

WEEK 2: Ansoina 48, Holy Cross 7.

Week 2 didn't start out great for the Chargers, as Holy Cross scored on a 46 yd pass on the first series of the game, and Ansonia fell behind 7-0.

Then the Skykeem Harmon show took over. Harmon scored on runs of 5 & 13 yards, and the Chargers led 14-7 after one. Then Harmon scored on an electrifying 80 yard punt return, the followed that up with TD runs of 3 and 20 yards to increase Ansonia's lead to 35-7 at the half.

John Picheco (5 yard run) and Chicago Rivers (1 yard run) rounded out the scoring for the Chargers.

Jack Hunt Practice Field Dedication!

TODAY, Friday 9/14, the practice field at the Nolan Field Athletic Complex will be dedicated to the late Jack Hunt. We encourage all former players who played under Coach Hunt (either from his years as an assistant coach or head coach) to attend this ceremony at 6:30 pm.

Ansonia will play Holy Cross in their home opener following the ceremony, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 pm!

Ansonia beats W.C.A in Week 1

The Ansonia Chargers beat the Waterbury Career Academy Spartans by a final score of 55-6 Friday night in Waterbury.

Senior Captain Darwin Amaya got the scoring started early in this one, scoring on a 92 yard run on the Chargers first offensive play of the game. Amaya would also add a 9 yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Junior running back Shaykeem Harmon also added a pair for the Chargers, scoring on a 25 yard run, and a 39 yard pass from quarterback Sheldon Schuler - also both in the first quarter as Ansonia led 28-0 after 1.

Chargers fall in State Finals, 42-36.

The Ansonia Chargers fell in this years Class S State Championship game by a score of 42-36 to St. Joseph's.

Led by senior rb Markell Dobbs (40/251/3TD's) the Chargers fell just short of the win. Justin Lopez (5/109 and a TD) also played a great game for the Chargers.

It was the 8th straight appearance in a State Final by Ansonia, and they are 4-4 over the span.

Ansonia Beats Stafford, head to Class S Final!

The Ansonia Chargers beat the Stafford/Somers/E.Windsor Bulldogs 52-19 in the Class S Semi-Final game Saturday.

Playing without Starting QB Justin Lopez, the Chargers did not pass or punt the entire game. Tyler Cafaro got the start in Lopez's stead. Markell Dobbs ran for 147 yards on 13 carries, and scored 3 TD's. Shaykeem Harmon scored on a 37 yd. INT return, to go with a 47 yd. run. John Picheco and Darwin Amaya also added scoring runs for the Chargers.

Thanksgiving: Ansonia beats Naugatuck 46-28!

The Chargers wrapped up the regular season 10-0, by beating the Naugatuck Greyhounds 46-28 on Thanksgiving morning.

Sr. RB Markell Dobbs ran 34 times for 406 yards. He also scored 6 TD's and 5 2 pt. conversions, accounting for all Ansonia's points.

Ansonia will open the CIAC Class S playoffs with a home game against #8 seed Seymour at 6:30 pm this Tuesday!

Ansonia beats Holy Cross, 50-6. Improves to 9-0.

The Ansonia Chargers beat the Holy Cross Crusaders 50-6 on a rare Saturday game at Holy Cross High School to improve to 9-0 on the year.

Playing without star running back Markell Dobbs (held out of the game for precautionary reasons), Junior Running Back Darwin Amaya filled in quite nicely, as he ran for 4 TD's on runs of 8, 48, 20, & 1 yds.

Senior Justin Lopez returned a punt 70 yards for another score, and also intercepted a Cross pass. Sophomore RB Shaykeem Harmon also scored on a 9 yard run for Ansonia.

Saturday's game vs. Holy Cross moved to 11:00am

The game against Holy Cross scheduled for this Saturday, 11/11 for 1:00 pm has been change to an 11:00am start at the request of Holy Cross.

Ansonia 50, St. Paul Catholic 0. The Chargers move to 6-0!

The 5-0 Chargers faced the 5-0 St. Paul Falcons at Jarvis on Friday night.

After an opening drive by the Falcons that took up almost the first 9 minutes of the game, but stalled near the Chargers 30 yard line, Ansonia took over.

Sr. Markell Dobbs ran 8 times for 288 yards (36 ypc avg.) and scored 5 TD's on runs of 61, 27, 42, 80, and 60 yards. Jr. Running Back Darwin Amaya also scored on a run of 32 yards.

Sophomore Garrett Cafaro was a perfect 6-6 on extra points, and So. Shaykeem Harmon also ran in a 2 pt. conversion.

Ansonia moves to 5-0 with win over Kennedy

The Ansonia Chargers improved to 5-0, beating the Kennedy Eagles by a score of 48-6 Thursday night in Waterbury.

Brent Washington hauled in 3 TD passes from Justin Lopez, while Markell Dobbs scored twice on the ground. Cody Teodosio, Darwin Amaya, and Lopez also scored Charger Touchdowns!

Next game is at home at Jarvis Stadium, Friday night, 10/20 vs. St. Paul Catholic.

Win Number 800! Ansonia 62, Torrington 6

The Ansonia Chargers became the first team in state history to record 800 wins by beating Torrington 62-6 Friday night at Jarvis.

The Chargers scored the first 3 times they touched the ball. Markell Dobbs rushed for 101 yards and 2 TD's on only 4 carries, and also added a 40 yd punt return TD.

QB Just Lopez also ran for 2 TD's, and threw a 39 yd TD to Brent Washington.

Darwin Amaya and Shaykeem Harmon also added rushing TD's.

Chargers 3-0, looking for win number 800!!

The Chargers beat Oxford last Friday. 43-0. The defense got their first shutout of the season. The offense was again led by Markell Dobbs (7/146) who score 2 rushing TD's along with a 44 yard punt return!

Come out to Jarvis tonight to Cheer on the Chargers as they go up against Torrington at 7:00 PM. The Chargers are looking for win number 800 in school history!!

Ansonia 54, WCA 6. Chargers move to 2-0

The Ansonia Chargers won their first road contest in grand fashion Friday night, beating the Spartans of Waterbury Career Academy 54-6.

Markell Dobbs again led the Chargers attack, running for 181 yds and 4 TD's. Justin Lopez, Darwin Amaya, Shaykeem Harmon, and Terjuan Burneyalso scored for Ansonia.

Next up vs. Oxford at home this Friday at 7:00!

Chargers open 2017 with a big win at home!

The Ansonia Chargers began their quest for title number 21 in grand fashion Friday night, beating the Wolcott Eagles 61-6. The Chargers scored every time they had the ball in the first half, and led 53-6 at halftime.

Led by Sr. Captain Markell Dobbs (14/161/2 TDs) and Jr. Darwin Amaya (4/54/2 TDs), the Chargers got going early. Sr. Captain Cody Teodosio led the receivers with 2 catches for 37 yards and a TD.

The Chargers are now 31-0 all-time against the Eagles since the series began in 1987.

State Championship Banquet March 24!

The Ansonia Gridiron Club will host a banquet next month celebrating the high school football team’s 20th state championship title.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, March 24 at the Colonial Tavern in Oxford.

Donation is $40 per person.

Ansonia on Traditions TV

Ansonia Football was featured on a television show on Sports New York (SNY) called Traditions. The Traditions crew filmed the Chargers as they practiced leading up to the game versus Watertown. Past and present coaches and players were also interviewed.
